Holiday Concert, Art Show and More

It doesn't seem that long ago that we just started the year and here we are talking about the Holiday Concert and Art Show.  The members of the Friends of the Fine Arts have been very busy so we want to take a moment to catch you up on all the goings-on and of course, opportunities to join in.

Poinsettia Sale -DEADLINE EXTENDED to Thursday 11/29 8 AM!
Our Annual Poinsettia sale is going on now - this is a great opportunity for the Music and Arts students to earn money for their own Fine Arts Accounts.  For every poinsettia sold after the first, they will earn $4 to be applied to furthering their Arts education.  These are nice sized plants and those that buy them for $12 will not be disappointed.  They also make a nice Host/Hostess gifts.  Download your order forms here.

We are looking for a few adult volunteers to help out for the Holiday Concert Dec 6th.  We have a lot to prepare.  We would like to have enough volunteers to alternate so each can see their student's  performance.  Any help outside of the concert times would be appreciated to boost membership and sell the notecards and calendars.   Sign up here.

Lawn Art
Our Yard Sign features DGS Award Winning Artist Emmanuelle Copeland (2019) artwork and is guaranteed to add class to any yard.  Can be ordered with or without personalization.

Chipotle Night

2018 Membership Drive

2018-2019 Membership Drive
How do you get from Good to Great?
For the Fine Arts programs at Downers Grove South High School, it’s the community involvement. In a time where we see other schools abandoning their Arts programs, we are so fortunate to see ours becoming more vibrant. And we have you to thank for it.

Now in its 21st year, the Friends of Fine Arts (FOFA) is looking forward to organizing the efforts to keep our programs thriving.

What does FOFA do?
FOFA works in collaboration with Band Boosters, Choir Boosters, the Orchestra, and the Visual Arts programs to serve the more than 1,700 students who participate in curricular arts programs at South High School. Last year, FOFA supported more than $12,000 in projects to enhance the studies for our musicians and artists including:
  • Student scholarships - FOFA offers summer study grants in music and visual art and assistance to students requiring financial support to pursue private instruction.
  • Student fundraising - by organizing various fundraisers, FOFA helps students fund their own accounts and pay for supplies, lessons and school-sponsored trips.
  • Visiting musicians and artists - FOFA helps expand the boundaries of the classroom by supporting opportunities for students to learn from professional artists.
  • Equipment - students of the visual and musical arts at South High School benefit from FOFA's purchases of supplemental equipment for fine arts instruction.
  • Events - FOFA helps organize and provide hospitality support for concerts, art shows and other fine arts events.
How can you help?
Parents can support our efforts in three ways:
  1. Contribute any level of financial assistance by joining FOFA
  2. Provide volunteer assistance at events
  3. Support our various fundraisers held throughout the year
Your contributions, in any way, is very much valued and helps to ignite a life-long passion for the arts in every learner. Please see the brochure for more information on our organization and to indicate your level of participation.

Thanks in advance for your involvement. Your dedication ensures we will have another fantastic year in the arts at South High School.

Artistically yours,
The 2018-2019 FOFA Board

Welcome Old and New Friends of Fine Arts

We are excited to start a new year supporting the students involved in the excellent Fine Arts programs at Downers Grove South.  Each year, we raise significant funds which help student scholarships, special programs, and other opportunities to expand our students' interests in the Fine Arts.

We had more than half (!) of our board 'graduate out' last year so please consider joining the Friends of Fine Arts Board.  The time commitment is minimal; one one-hour meeting a month and you decide your other levels of involvement.  We are looking for fresh ideas and support for the events we run each year.  Our next meeting is Monday, October 1, 7 PM and DGS HS, Room B124.

If you want to lend a hand with fundraisers or events, please sign up here ( or send an email to the address below.

Also, your financial support is always welcome.  We've expanded our thank-you gifts so please consider a donation.  You can find our Membership form here.

If you have questions, please email at or call/text me at 331-645-1242

Thanks for your support,

Brian Allendorfer
